Description

The IEEE Computer Society Certified Software Development Professional (CSDP) certification focuses on the following components of a professional certification:

• Exam-based testing demonstrating mastery of a Body of Knowledge (BOK);
• Extensive experience base in the performance of the work or profession being certified; and;
• Continuing professional education, measured and relevant to the BOK.

The CSDP Exam Specifications were develop through a job analysis process that provided an industry accepted, systematic procedure for identifying/validating the performance domain of a job and the knowledge and skills that are necessary to perform the job.

Requirements

The CSDP is intended for mid-level software engineering professionals.  Before taking the exam, candidates are required to have a baccalaureate or equivalent degree and at least 9,000 hours of experience in at least 6 of the 11 knowledge areas below:

2. Software Requirements
3. Software Design
4. Software Construction
5. Software Testing
6. Software Maintenance
7. Software Configuration Management
8. Software Engineering Management
9. Software Engineering Process
10. Software Engineering Tools and Methods
11. Software Quality

The following people are eligible to take the exam:

12. Senior IEEE members are automatically eligible
13. Licensed Software Engineers are automatically eligible
14. Software Developers/Engineers, Educators, Full IEEE members or CSDA holders are eligible, but must have either:
    • An advanced Software Engineering degree and 2 years of experience
    • 4 years of Software Development/Engineering experience
